100ft of 6" cover tape

Have you guys ran into this problem before? I installed my first EPDM roof in 95. Love the product and have used it many, many times. I ran into something that I haven’t had happen before. I bought a roll of 6" X 100 cured cover tape. We are finishing up the roof. Started rolling out our Cover tape on the eave metal. At 30’6" the roll ended. A smooth cut. Now we had to field splice the cover tape on a small job. I figured it was someones return that they tried to fool the supplier on. I unrolled the rest of the roll and found we were 13’ short. It was only 87’3" long.
Number one, I don’t like having a splice in cover tape on such a short run. The supplier told me that every now and then Carlisle will send a 100’ roll and mark it as cut. I’ve run thousands of feet of this product and never ran into a cut roll. Why would you sell a hundred foot roll if it’s two pieces? Crazy.

We have had a number of cut rolls before, but it seems lately we do not get them as much, unsure if they shorted us though.

Thanks. That’s good to know. I thought it was someones return. The roll we had wasn’t marked on the box or the release tape. It was a surprise.

Everyone we have ever got was marked, at least on the roll and I’m pretty sure the box said something too. For some reason I remember them being actually lapped together and you had to cut out the splice it was only over lapped like an 1" or 2. Did the roll look used? I’m pretty sure every cut roll was marked though, that’s what would concern me. Well that and being shorted 13’ of an already overly priced item.

I assume you mean pressure sensitive cover strip? I would recommend that you talk to the manufacturers rep about the shortage. Having a short roll or spliced roll isn’t very cool!
