I do apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum?
I recently got my roof replaced. It was stripped down and re-shingled. The proposal also included reflashing the chimney. From the street level, everything looked fine. Then I had a chimney inspector come by to inspect my chimney and he noted the flashing on the chimney was peeling off. It certainly “looks” like the flashing wasn’t replaced at all. I had the original roofer come back to check the flashing job. He insists that it was replaced and the rust stains are from the prior flashing. Can someone please tell me if this is the case? I would never have guessed anything was wrong until I had the chimney inspector check the chimney.
I had other issues that popped up after the roof was replaced… leaking via the skylight that wasn’t replaced and occasional water dripping through the attic fan during heavy storms.
And should it get reflashed, does anyone know a ballpark figure on how much it may cost? I don’t think I’ll have the prior roofer reflash the chimney.
Thanks for the quick responses. And thank you for confirming what looks to be a job not done at all. I am going contact another firm to get this corrected. But this makes me wonder how well everything else is done.
As for skylight, no it wasn’t in the contract. It was just strange for it to leak after getting a new roof. I believe the roofer caulked the skylight, so looks like I’ll have to get a new skylight as well. Or does it just need to be reflashed? I have a bubble shaped skylight.
Thank you for the prices. At least I have an idea how much it will cost for the repairs.

Me too. The person who worked on your house is NOT a roofer. Probbaly a painter, plumber, or some other trade. MAybe an out of work broker.

I’ve roofed around many bubble lights that the owner was going to wait on repalcement. They generally went another roof life and were still there when the roof died. They didn’t leak either.
Sorry, no photos of it. The prior photos were taken by the chimney inspector.
Yeah, I’m really surprised and disappointed with this contractor. He did all the roofing work for my coworker’s neighborhood.
With skylights, technically, if the roofer does a good job, it shouldn’t leak? I was under the impression that they needed to be replaced with new roof jobs?
