Drip edge / Gutter apron

hello,

I hope I don’t sound stupid but I’m putting on a new roof and my friend said i need to put Drip edge over the top of gutter apron is this true? I thought you used drip edge when there are no gutters and a gutter apron when you are putting a gutter up on that part of the wall?

Thank you

You can use drip edge, or not. It is an extra measure of protection, but not neccesary, provided you have enough shingle overhang.

With no drip we put 1-1/4" in the gutters and 1" on the rake…,but drip is better…,I think.,when drip edge is used it maintains shingle strength preventing the shingles curling down in the gutter and on the rakeline.
