I was asked by an adjuster to give him some numbers on a reroof I am bidding. I’m a little green in generating numbers for insurance so was hoping you could help. The house is in Houston Texas 77058 area. It’s a 2 story gable style home with a few valleys and hips. It is a 10/12 with 30 year architectural shingles. I will need 38 squares of 30 year,7 bundles of ridge and 4 bundles of starter. Can someone tell me what Exactimate allows for this considering 2 story and steep charge. I rarely work with adjusters but will purchase the software myself when I get a little more insurance work.
Its a line item program, you have to put in to remove the sq of felt and shingles, then footage of drip edge on and off.The vents list each and every one if theres valley metal,r&r valley metal by the foot, dumpster charge, steep charge over 7/12,steep charge over 9/12,limited access, etc but the program will give you the pricing for your area code.
Try www.scopewriters.com. It is geared to the insurance adjuster but they may be able to help you out. I haven’t renewed my Xactimate subscription or I would help you out.
A while back I e-mailed scope writers and they haven’t replyed back yet. It has been so long ago that I forgot all about it until now.

Thanks
I’m up against a deadline and will need to have my bid completed in the next day or 2. I’m hoping someone on this forum can help me out pretty quick.
I know of a program with 1 license from xaxtimate you can run another program with it and maxumize insurance payments to you. Just dont forget you cant pay the deductible.
The program works along with it and makes it 100 times easier and gives you alot more options funny thing is the program is free.
If you are interested to talk the the guy about this program and im not selling anything just making a statement, i have seen the program and you can do thing the other program cant. xactimate is only there to port numbers thats it. does nothing else and with 1 license and 200 computers you can use this other program. this is what i ran into thats all i know about it. call bob at 800-985-3738 its a roofing company thats the funniest part i think.
Im not selling a thing check it out it works very well for insurance. they show you the program and do a webinar side from that i dont know anymore. all i ask is let them know i sent you since bob is a good friend of mine.
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping someone could give me an xactimate quote so I could support my quote with a little authority, not that I don’t consider your info spot on. I can tell this guy is playing me a little hoping I am clueless and come in with a low number. Most of the insurance claims around here seem to pay around $240 per square to remove and replace plus high and steep charges. This would be for 30 year shingles. If nobody can give me an Xactimate quote can you guys tell me what they typically pay for steep and high on a 10/12 2 story? Also is it always possible to get profit and overhead. If so how do I build that in. Sorry for the NEWB questions but I’m a NEWB. Most of the time I have bid jobs after the adjuster has already given the home owner their numbers.
i doubt you get any O&P unless you are doing multiple trades (siding, interior work, fencing, concrete staining, etc etc)
i’d shoot for $250 a sq, plus 52, plus 15 = $315. then add in pipe jacks, flashings, vents, and all the other junk, plus tax, and you will end up around $340-350 per sq.

and dont forget to bust it all down, line by line.
like this:
Remove and dispose of 30 year shingles = $40/sq x 32.5 = $1300
Replace 30 year shingles, incl felt and ridge = $210/sq x 38 = $7980
2 story charges = $15/sq x 38 = $570
Steep roof 10:12-12:12 $50 x 38 $1900
pipe jacks $27 x 4 = $108
turtle vents $42 x 6 $252
chimney flashing $320 x 1
thats $12,430. add tax on the materials, and yor are right around $13,000.
if that isnt enough for you, then add in another steep charge, and another 2 story charge for the removal. that will add another $2,500ish.
of course, im just guessing on the pipes, flashing, etc. that also didnt include HVAV caps and any skylights or anything either.

Below are the double steep charges and high roof charges for another area, I doubt these particular line items are much different. You will also want to add line items for vent/roof penetrations, chimney flash, step flash, drip edge, new step flashing kit for skylights, remove and replace satellite, etc. for whatever other items there are in order to get a reasonable bid. These items are all typically allowed by the insurance. For example, a large chimney flash charge is $258.77. Depending on the insurance company, they may or not pay for ridge cap (State Farm for example insists this is included in the waste).
Remove (per square) double steep charge (10/12 to 12/12) $14.59 per square
Replace (per square) double steep charge (10/12 to 12/12) $31.68 per square
Remove (per square) charge for high roof $3.51 per square
Replace (per square) charge for high roof $8.87 per square
If you’d like to send me the detail, I’d be glad to download the local rates for your area and work up a quote.
To all of you that replied. Thank you. I now have all the data I need to work up a solid quote. I don’t like to ask you guys for this type of information since I know you are paying good money for the data yourself. I’m just a little guy starting out but I’m working steady on incorporating all the tools of the trade necessary to give myself the best opportunity to build a successful business.
really you truely need 1 license and you can go like the wind.
If you would like to see a supercharged version call this number 816-456-2314 it was something i stubled upon and it really makes it work 10 times better. im not selling anythng just passing the info on. ask for bob.
All i will say is i was impressed on what he had to say
