My 4/12 hip roof rafters are secured to the top plate, toe-nailed through the rafter into the plate. Since I have easy access to this area now, would it be prudent to add rafter-to-plate connectors?
…or could a big sucky wind then just tear the top plate from the wall studs instead of lifting the roof assembly from the top plate? (I don’t have access at this time to install plate-to-wall stud connectors). The outside walls do have 1/2" plywood sheathing on them, so assuming that they are nailed to both the plate and the studs, I would think that there is at least some tie-in effect there.
I’m far away from hurricane opportunities, but tornadoes are within the realm of possibility.
