Should shingles curl/curve up an over t-drip edge ?
No, most likely the drip edge was not adjusted for the pitch of the roof and is not installed on the same plane as the roof deck. This can also happen if the fascia sticks up higher than the roof deck.
Thanks for reply ! Originally blamed facia but when shown pics of prior roof blamed it on upgraded drip edge ! Wish I could share more pics of all issues you would get a kick out of it
Maybe they didnât make deep enough notches around the gutter hangers.
I dont think thats rotten wood. A return/birdwalk/catwalk is around that corner. Its a notch in the wood that allows for you to put cap/ridge on corner. Its most likely been like that since the house was built.
Over half dozen more like this found already and not all on corners- clear evidence of rot and damage from attic so definitely not intentional cuts
Wayneps,
Hopefully no roofing professional on this site âgets a kick out ofâ bad workmanship and a homeowners misfortune. I cringe when I see this stuff and feel bad for the person who paid for it.
Ir shingles look identical to standard shingles, just manufactured differently and cost more, so you would have to check the packaging to see what was installed.
I dont doubt that there may be rotten wood that you found on other parts of your roof. If there was, then it should have been replaced. However, i was making an observation based on the picture you posted. Such as the gutter wrapping the corner and the fact there is no rake board that extends to eave.
Thank you all for responses. The time you take to answer tells me you probably take great pride in the work you do. What would you do if you began cutting into the wall to score brick to secure flashing ( actually cut in mortar based on chunks found ) say below window sill and brick began to separate? They applied some sort of caulk to cover gap and never informed me I may have structure issue. This concerns me greatly
Cutting into the mortar is the preferred method for securing counter flashing, the slot should only be 1" deep and should have no effect on the integrity of the brick.
That is not a hole in the decking.
It is a âbirdhouseâ where field and cap shingles are slid under it from the other side.
It is correct.
I highly doubt you have structural issues because they cut into your brick. The way they install brick walls now is just brick in front of the already framed wall (not for support, just for the look of brick. So unless your house is very old (doesnât appear to be from the pics) it couldnât be a structural issue no matter what they did to the brick.

Ty I agree with you. That was excuse they gave for just globbing caulk or whatever on flashing rather than as they stated they would. We could live with the wrong color shingle installed but after the heavy rains today we noticed water flying off edges of roof like never before, all gutters were leaking between siding an most didnât drain at all, and water pooling along edge due to curl. Guess being the oldest company in town doesnât matter if you catch the wrong crew on your job
Problem in my area is most of the âbest companyâs in townâ just sub the work out to the cheapest guys they can find. Then we come in and fix it.
You are spot on ! Behind this particularly horrible roofer is a marketing person who is able to fabricate 5 star reviews out of thin air. Not fair to the guys who really do great work nor the public
